Called To Be Repairers Of The Broken Walls

The 2014 theme for our church, Our Redeemer Oromo Evangelical Church in Minnesota (OROECM), is Isaiah 58:12 “…you will be called Repairers of the Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings…”
We all know that we live in a world of turmoil in one way or another. In a world full of trials and tribulations, Christians are called to be the “Light” and “Salt” (Matt. 5:13-16).

This is not an easy job at all! However, by trusting our Lord we struggle daily to live out our faith in the community and in the world.

In Isaiah 58 God spoke to His people and reminded them that they are called to a special task -- to be “Repairers” and “Restorers” for their generation. Even if the need of repairing and restoring is different according to time and location, it is always needed everywhere. We know there are numerous areas that need to be repaired and restored, and we are called to do our share as long as we live on this earth.

When we see oppression, violence, hunger, and extreme poverty, we know that we have some responsibilities in all those circumstances.   When we see walls of division in families, in the community, and even in the church, we are not called to turn our backs. Even if we are under constant war with the work of the devil, we are called to continue to proclaim the good news of the gospel to those living in bondage. It is our call and duty to repair and restore the broken lives of people. That is why we have intentionally planned to focus on issues of rebuilding and restoring. The church is here to raise the spiritual armor of God to fight back and free the captives (Eph.6:10-13).

Throughout the year, we plan to teach and preach on this theme to address the need of “Repairing” and Restoring”. We believe that the Holy Spirit will stir up in us, challenge us, open our eyes, deepen our understandings, and equip us so that we can reach out and repair the broken families, divided communities, broken relationships, and show compassion to the broken-hearted.

What are the broken walls in our family, church, and in our community? What is God calling us to repair and restore? We hope you will see more deeply what this would mean to you as we embark on this important topic starting February 2014.

We invite you to pray and worship with us (in person or online), and join us in the task of repairing and restoring the broken walls. We will post videos on our website as usual and we also invite you to follow us on our live streaming on Sundays 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Central Standard Time at (www.oromochurchmn.org) by clicking on “live streaming”.
